I have always loved hotel lobbies, the ambience, the opulence, the people watching, the bustle, and of course, those important people (as well as the not-so-important ones!) I think it is the excitement that a 5 star hotel can generate, that keeps me in the role of concierge.

In 1981, I joined the hotel business, and here I am 28 years later. I first started in food and beverage, covering all aspects, buss boy, cellar work, mini bar, cocktail bar work and waitering.

I moved to Front Office in 1983, starting as a Receptionist, Senior Receptionist, Duty Manager, spent two years as relief Night Manager (you need to serve your time!) moved to Assistant Front Office Manager (member of Sheraton Alice Springs opening team) then in 1987 was promoted to Front Office Manager. After three years in this role I decided not to move my family around the world at short notice, and decided on a career ‘side step’ In 1989, I moved to concierge and worked with Tony Facciolo, a legend within the industry and became Chief Concierge upon Tony’s departure in 1992.

I have worked with several hotel groups during this period, Qantas, Sheraton, Rydges and the Accor Group.

I am proud to be a member of Les Clefs d’Or, and feel my uniform is not complete until my gold keys are attached. It is most satisfying when guests notice the internationally recognized branding on my lapels, and as a concierge, in a position to offer that ‘little extra’ that will enhance that luxury aspect to their stay.
